Abstract

The use of children song makes the researcher interested in using them as the research material. However, in translating the lyrics, it must be done concisely and precisely. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quality of their translation results in translating children song lyrics. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The researcher used the lyrics of the children's song entitled Miss Polly Had a Dolly and Accidents Happen in English to be translated into Indonesian by students in translation class at the Surakarta University. The findings of this study indicate five types of translation methods used in translating the lyrics of the song: word for word translation (1.25%), literal translation (20%), faithful translation (60%), free translation (16.25%), and adaptation translation (2.5%) and the quality of their translation is less accurate, acceptable, and readable. The translator needs to know the proper translation methoed to be applied so that the meaning of the text can be fully transferred and understood by the readers. The importance of choosing the translation method is also very influential on the quality of the translation results.
